The Problem & Ideation
Urban skiers need a sustainable, practical way to carry winter gear by bike instead of by car. Early ideation compared multiple mounting directions and quickly converged on a modular rear-rack system for balance, safety, and repeatability.
Needs analysis and concept screening
Rear-rack integration over side-mounted concepts
Modular approach selected for iteration speed

Digital Prototyping & CAD
Paper sketches were translated into CAD and refined into a frame-plus-backplate architecture. The geometry was updated to support clean module insertion, stronger load paths, and practical fabrication steps.
CAD iteration and tolerance checks
Backplate and module interface tuning

Material Selection & Module Testing
Module and geometry revisions were validated through physical testing cycles. This stage focused on improving retention, reducing unwanted flex, and preparing the module set for repeatable production.
Module stress and fit testing
Design updates after each test cycle
Configuration updates before final load testing

Final Design, Load Testing & Renderings
The final design was incrementally loaded to verify structural limits and reached 20 kg before failure. Final renders documented the production direction and module family, including ski and snowboard capacity planning.
Load testing up to 20 kg
Ski module: 1 ski per slot
Snowboard module: 1 snowboard across 2 slots
